A Muddy Afternoon with the Lathrop Family | Colorado Springs Portrait Photographer

There is no mistaking that I love this family to pieces.  Christy likes to have family photos a couple of times a year so that they can document this time in their boy’s lives.  Bubby and Squeaky are getting to where they know me pretty well and they know what all of this camera business is about.  We decided to switch it up this time and go down to one of my favorite local parks to get a few shots of the family on the steps.  The boys were a little…rowdy….and the rain that hit before we arrived left behind alot of well…mud.   So our little session took a turn in the other direction as we decided to let the boys just go for it in the mud puddles.  I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard…at least not in awhile. :)  Squeaky took a real interest in the muddy water and well I guess he thought that maybe it would look better on his face.  All I can say is boys will be boys and I am thinking this shoot is a good reflection of that. :)  Enjoy…

As a side note I came across the following photo and it kind of looked like Mom and Dad were trying to corral two ninjas.  These kids got moves.

Connie - Heidi what a great job capturing their amazing afternoon!
Christy! Your kids couldn’t be any cuter! These are absolutely adorable! And it’s obvious you are enjoying your kids. What a beautiful gift for them to see these photos one day when they’re grown and have children of their own! <3 I love it!

Jackie | Senior | Colorado Springs Senior Portrait Photographer

I can hardly believe that the summer is quickly drawing to a close, which means school starts for many very soon.  Jackie is going to be a senior this year and will be graduating high school and using her amazing talent as a dancer to join a dance company.  As a ballerina I figured that Jackie would have to be a natural in front of the camera.  She was a little shy at first but my camera quickly found the best ways to her heart and I think/hope that these photos are a true reflection of her at this stage in her life.  She is stunningly beautiful….as I think you will all agree.  I really had a blast getting to know you Jackie and wish you nothing but the best in your final year of high school!

Heidi Leigh Photography is now booking 2011 seniors.  Please contact me for more information.  Because I love fashion inspired portraits and this is great practice for working with my brides I will only be offering senior portraits to the ladies of the Class of 2011!  So ladies if you want photos that make you look as beautiful as you really are and have a blast as we capture them then I suggest you give us a call and get on the schedule ASAP!  :)

Monique and Andrew | Married | Ceremony & Reception | Air Force Academy Wedding Photographer

And last but not least in our Monique and Andrew trilogy are some of my favorite photos from the ceremony and the reception which were both held at the Association of Graduates located at the Air Force Academy.  It was a beautiful venue set in the trees and I absolutely loved shooting here.  As you can see in the photos the pink, orange and brown theme was carried throughout the reception.  Including centerpieces with cute little goldfish.   The cake and AMAZING cupcakes were provided by Sweet Daphne Confections and I would highly recommend them to any of my brides.  The catering was provided by Rosario’s who came up all the way from Pueblo for the occassion.  And last but certainly not least Christ from Blue Moon DJ rocked the house.  I mean he did an unbelievable job of keeping everyone on the dance floor and having fun.  I think the pictures show that everyone had a good time. :)

Congratulations Monique and Andy!  I hope that you have an amazing life together.

Monique & Andrew | Married | The Portraits | Colorado Springs Wedding Photographer

Sorry for the slight delay in this part 2 blog post.  Photoshop hates me. but I think we got it all ironed out.  :)  I am so excited to share with you today’s post and the one that will be following it.  This wedding was so beautiful and Monique thought through every detail.  She left plenty of time for portraits and even with a few hiccups and some harsh sun at times we were able to get the portraits you see today.  I love the mix of posed shots and natural interaction when they didn’t think I was looking. ;)   You will see both of those here.  Monique made an absolutely stunning bride and I must say Andy didn’t look too bad himself.  Enjoy…

Monique and Andrew | Married | Colorado Springs Air Force Academy Wedding Photographer

You might remember these two lovely faces from their engagement sessions!  I love this couple to death and couldn’t wait for their big day to finally arrive.  In order to show the story of their day as it unfolded this will be a 3 part series.  Part 1, which is today’s post, will feature the getting ready photos and their first look.  Tomorrow I will showcase some of their fabulous portraits, and then Wednesday I will be sharing their ceremony and stunning reception and also give a shout out to their vendors!  I would like to give a shout out to Charity Mae for assisting me for this wedding.  She hung out with the guys while they got ready and it looks like they has some fun too!

Monique is one of those uber organized brides.  It was almost strange to feel like my only responsibility for the day was to photograph because everything else was under control.  This is not always the case and I am happy to jump in and help where I can.  I enjoyed spending time with the girls in the hotel and chatting as they watched me crawl all over the hotel room photographing details.  I can’t wait until tomorrow’s post but until then check out this dress….PERFECT!!!!
